AI writing assistants are only as good as the instructions they receive, and most people type one vague sentence and blame the tool. Today you learn the RTIC prompt framework — Role, Task, Instructions, Context — which works in ChatGPT or any comparable assistant with a free tier.

The RTIC Framework

Role: tell the assistant who to be — an experienced B2B copywriter, a plain-language editor. Task: state exactly what you want produced, including format and length. Instructions: set the constraints — tone, structure, things to avoid, audience reading level. Context: paste the background it cannot guess — your product details, the email thread you are answering, an example of your own writing to match. Each layer removes a category of generic output, and the difference between a bare request and a full RTIC prompt is dramatic.

Iterate Instead of Accepting

Treat the first draft as a starting point. Push back conversationally: make it half as long, sharpen the opening, sound less formal, give me three alternative subject lines. Iteration is where assistants earn their keep, and each refinement teaches you what to put in your next first prompt.

Edit Like an Owner

You remain the author. Verify any factual claim before sending, rewrite anything that does not sound like you, and never ship text you have not fully read — especially names, numbers, and commitments.

Action Step

Take one real writing task from your week and complete it twice in any free AI assistant: once with a one-line prompt, once with full RTIC. Compare outputs, then save your RTIC version as a reusable template.

Educational content only. Tactics and tools change — treat everything here as a starting point to test in your own situation. No specific outcome or income is promised.
