Live video gives a seller something no product page can: a real person showing a real product in real time, answering the exact question a viewer just asked. But “going live” is not one thing. Different formats serve different goals, and choosing the right one for your first stream makes the whole experience more manageable and more useful.
Demos and product showcases
The demonstration stream walks through one or several products, showing how they work, what they feel like and who they suit. It is the most direct selling format and the easiest to plan because the products provide the structure. A showcase variant moves through a collection or a themed group, such as a seasonal range, with shorter time per item.
Q&A and launch streams
A question-and-answer stream is driven by the audience. You open with a short framing, invite questions and answer them with products to hand. It suits brands with an existing audience and products that raise lots of questions. A launch stream reveals something new, builds anticipation with a countdown and makes the product available during or immediately after the broadcast.
Behind-the-scenes shows
Behind-the-scenes streams show the workshop, the packing table, the sourcing trip or the design process. They sell less directly but build familiarity and trust, which lifts later sales. They work well as a regular, low-pressure format between selling streams and are forgiving for beginners because nobody expects polish.
Action Step
Choose your first format. Write three sentences explaining why it fits your products, your current audience size and your comfort on camera. Then list the two formats you will try next and what you would need to learn before each.
