Shopify and Amazon reward different behavior. Before setting anything up, decide what each channel is for so they support each other rather than compete.
Marketplace as Demand Capture
Amazon is where many shoppers already search with buying intent. Treat it as a demand-capture channel: high-volume core products, competitive pricing within your margin rules, and listings built for marketplace search.
Your Store as Relationship Builder
Your Shopify store is where you own the customer relationship: email, SMS, bundles, subscriptions, exclusive variants and brand content. Use it for higher-margin offers and for customers who come back.
Avoiding Channel Conflict
Write rules for what is sold where: shared core range, store-only bundles or variants, and marketplace-only multipacks if useful. Keep advertised prices consistent across channels so neither feels like the place where customers get a worse deal.
Action Step
Write a one-paragraph role for each channel and a table showing which products and variants are sold on Shopify only, Amazon only, or both.
