What this is

Customers compare options, whether you research your competitors or not. This course gives founders a structured way to study the competitive landscape: identifying direct and indirect competitors, analyzing offers, pricing and messaging, mining reviews for unmet needs and mapping where the market is crowded or underserved. You then turn that research into a positioning statement and a short set of messages you can use across your site and sales conversations. You finish with a competitor map and a written positioning document.

You work through it at your own pace, lesson by lesson, applying each exercise to your own situation. It does not promise that a business will succeed or earn a particular amount; results depend on your market, your decisions and your effort.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify direct, indirect and substitute competitors
  • Compare offers, pricing and messaging in a structured grid
  • Mine public reviews and forums for unmet customer needs
  • Map the market to find underserved positions
  • Write a clear positioning statement and supporting messages
